Glendullan 1995 / 13 Year Old / Managers' Choice / 70cl / 58.7% / Distillery Bottling A 13yo single cask Glendullan bottled at full strength for the Managers' Choice series. Glendullan is another distillery we didn't see much of on this side of the pond, but malt from what is one of Diageo's larger distilleries has recently emerged in the US under the Singleton banner. Glenlossie 1999 / 9 Year Old / Managers Choice / 70cl / 59.1% / Distillery Bottling In 1974 Glenlossie was one of only 12 distilleries rated in the highest category by whisky blenders, and their enthusiasm for the malt has meant that only around 1% of the distillery's output is kept for single malt, so this 9yo full-strength 1999 bottled for Diageo's Managers' Choice will likely be highly sought-after, particularly as only 204 bottles were yielded from the cask. The Irishman Rare Cask Strength 2010 Edition / 70cl / 53% Blended from the Hot Irishman company's three best casks in the cellar, this rare Irish blended whiskey is highly unusual in being bottled at its natural cask strength. Jim Murray described the 2009 bottling of this as 'absolutely brilliant' and gave it 93.5 points in the Whisky Bible 2010, so hopes are high for this expression. Price: £73.95 Inc. Ledaig 2005 / Sherry Butt / 70cl / 62.7% / Berry Brothers & Rudd Ledaig has an unenviable reputation, so this 2005 sherry cask from BBR will probably gather dust on the shelves - a terrible pity as it's actually rather amazing. Lipsmacking fruity sherry influence on the palate, with sweet, peppery peat & a pleasant menthol finish, and even at 62.7% it's a pleasure to sip neat. Peated Tobermory has no right to be this good; hats off to BBR for unearthing this low-key classic. Open-minded peat fans will be handsomely rewarded for taking a punt on this. Price: £34.25 Inc. Tomatin 1999 / 10 Year Old / Cask #29457 / 70cl / 57.1% / Distillery Bottling A 10yo Tomatin 1999, finished in a Tempranillo (ie Rioja grape) wine cask after initial maturation in refill American oak. Like the 1997 released at the same time, this has been bottled at 57.1% (100-proof), although the box says 'Natural Strength'. Wasmund's Single Malt / 75cl / 48% Wasmund's is an American single malt whiskey, made at the Copper Fox Distillery in Virginia, the malt for which is dried at the distillery using applewood and cherrywood. Woodford Reserve Masters / Seasoned Oak Finish / 70cl / 50.2% The fourth in Woodford Reserve's Masters Collection, Seasoned Oak Finish has been finished in barrels that have been seasoned (ie left outside) for three to five years (rather than the usual three to five months). This process of seasoning changes the wood by reducing tannins and ultimately creates a new range of flavour compounds, and the resulting whisky is proclaimed by Woodford to be their 'most robust whiskey yet'.
